Got Maui?

Maui has been my favorite Hawaiian island ever since my first visit in 1977. What is your favorite island?

Mayumi and I leave for Maui tomorrow—for work not vacation. We’re going to meet with leaders and community to develop software solutions that will reimagine travel and tourism.

The ancient Polynesians were master wayfinders, using the stars in the sky to locate a faraway island in a vast ocean.

When we were invited to Maui in August, we went as “essential workers.” There were no tourists, as this photo of the Maui airport shows. Zero.

Paradise has now reopened. All you need is a ticket and a negative Covid test within 72 hours of departure.

But we now sense a profound recognition amongst leaders and community that there’s no going back to pre-Covid Maui. We can only point the canoe toward the future.

What do you miss most about Maui? Or, your favorite island? What would you tell leaders about wayfinding a New Maui?

We’d love to hear from you. Mahalo!
